In 2002, Wisden ranked him the second greatest Test batsman of all time next only to Sir Donald Bradman, and the second greatest one-day international (ODI) batsman of all time next only to Sir Viv Richards.
I can never forget debutant Sachin Tendulkar walking into bat as a 16-year-old in the Karachi Test of 1989. I was fielding at mid-on as Wasim Akram tested him with pace and movement, Yes, Tendulkar was beaten but the confidence with which he tried to drive the ball was amazing.
